Dear Emilia Barb,

My trip to Costa Rica has been one of the biggest learning and growing experiences of my life. I could not have asked for a better experience. Everyone I have met here has been more than helpful, and extremely supportive, especially my host family. From day one I was welcomed with open arms and made to feel a parto f both Elvias´s and Emilia´s family. My experience in the kinder is something I am going to remember for always as well.

It is my most likely one of the best field experiences I have never felt so welcome and appreciated as a volunteer, and I will always remember the caring and loving attitudes of all the students. In addition I enjoyed all the excursions. I wish I would had the dance to see a volcano, but you can´t do everything in two months. I learned a great deal about the culture, country and lenguaje through all the activities anda m so appreciative for all.

I have learned and shared. Thanks you very much for all you have done and providing me with an experience I will treasure forever. Muchas gracias por todo.

Atentamente:

Amanda Wojnowski.

Katryn.

My experience of Costa Rica as a student teacher and tourist included so many wonderful memories that I will cherish for all my life. From the moment I stepped off the plane in San Jose and felt the warm tropical air, I was also warmly greeted  by my host mother Emilia. From that moment on, I continued to enjoy the warmth of this tropical country and from the people. Throughout my three months I was always welcomed to not only  other host family members, but all Costa Ricans no matter where I was at in the country. Their friendliness is always  something I will remember because I felt so comfortable being there despite being a foreingn country.

One of the best things about Costa Rica that include: taking a bus to one of the many beautiful beaches, climbing extinct volcanoes, zip- ling through tropical rainforest, going to the capital for art fairs and concerts, just having coffee or milkshakes with Emilia and much more. The people and country are so friendly that I was able to use and practice my spanish without ever feeling embarrassed of the mistakes I made using my second languaje. I gained much confidence in spanish speaking and comprehension skills that I give credit to the friendliness and patience of their culture. I World recommend to anyone who wanted to use and practice their Spanish to visit Costa Rica to help advance their Spanish skills.

Besides the traveling and many cultural experiences, the main purpose of my time in Costa Rica consisted  of my student teaching experience. For ten weeks, I was placed in wanderful bi- lingual school to teach 6th graders English and science. The school was very open to me as a foreingn teacher, and I learned many valuable lessons and  strategies that I can apply to my work here as a teacher in the United States. When ever there was a minor problem, I was always able to communicate it with Emilia or my supervisor and the problem was always solved. I was felt that my needs were respected and understood.

Costa Rica was an amazing experience for me as I grew as a professional theacher but more importantly as a global citizen in this world. Having an abroad experience and living in a different country has oppened my eyes and broadened my perspectives on different cultures. I had a very positive and wonderful experience in Costa Rica and hope more people can apréciate the awesome people, culture, food and natural beauty that exists there.

I took a chance when I decided to take part in the program but looking back, it was a decision that would change my life forever. I consider myself very lucky to have had the chance to life with a Costarican family that treated me as if I were already a part of the family. Living with a family is the best way to learn about another culture. Daily conversations helped me tremendously with my spanish and being away from my friends and family gave me a chance to learn about who I am , I am forever grateful.

I have the itch to travel you might say and going to Costa Rica would put me in seventh heaven has been fun for me to learn to speak spanish there four years. Last year I went to spanish camp in Benidji through Concordia Language Villages and I learned more. In Costa Rica I want to be able to learn how to hold a conversation with a native speaker and have little difficulty with the comprehnsion and responding. I have been looking forward to this sence I first learned of it sophmore year. I would also really, really like to see the Rainforest and experience the nature tropico. I love the outdoors and would hate to miss that in Costa Rica. Also I can´t wait to this difference foods. I love food. Mostly fruit! There are many more things I would love to tell you. I Can`t wait I have saved almost all the money myself since last spring

Gracias Amanda Lea
